Someone Woke Up on the Crunchy Side of the Bed!

Bringing two babies into this world really got me thinking. Is this safe? Is that safe? How many things am I doing, eating, using that there is a safer substitution out there for?

Actually, as soon as I began celebrating my pregnancy it took me about one week to start eating the crunchy peanut butter, and i’m growing crunchier by the day. Cloth diapers, babywearing, bedsharing, planning to EBF, feed the babies organic, amber teething necklaces…you get the picture!

Apparently, though, I haven’t been getting crunchy enough as fast as i’d like, because this week I have been on a freaking roll.

Exhibit A. The end of ‘Poo. I am totally in love with No ‘Poo. My hair was never very oily to begin with, so after that initial oily phase (that literally lasted 2 days) I have been very pleased with washing my hair once ever 3 days and I may go for 4 days just to test it out.

Exhibit B. Wandering Green Life drooling over all the yummy healthiness I wanted to buy…making mental list of things to get when paycheck rolls through.

Exhibit C. Paycheck is in! Too tired to go to Green Life, I checked out the tiny Nutrition World down the street from work. I think that’s what it’s called. I spent an hour in there sifting through the madness (I may be getting crunchy, but I still firmly believe in modern medicine) to find some pure coconut oil to condition my hair, grandma’s beauty bar soap, and Dr. Bronner’s baby bar soap…for me. My babies smell like ice cream and roses, no need for soap there!

Sidenote: What the heck is up with the craziness crammed all over Dr. Bronner’s soap bottles??? Does anyone know what is up with that? So many words!

Exhibit D. Empowered by my coconut oil, I head to EarthFare in search of hair dye that I can feel better about doing a room away from my breathing babes.  I settled on Surya Brasil Henna Powder (purest thing in store, and also cheapest, interestingly enough). I’ll post a review once i’ve rinsed it out. I also got suckered in to a vegan nail polish (curious how well it will stay on) and bought some aluminu-otherbadcrap-free deoderant…I really hope that works well!

Then I came home and had a peanut butter sandwich. Crunchy, of course.

Blissfully Mommy

Hi there, I’m Tina and I created Blissfully Mommy as a place to share and celebrate the ups and downs of motherhood. In between those dirty diaper moments i’ve learned to find bliss in the little things like a yummy recipe, easy style tips, or a Pinterest binge! I hope this blog inspires you to cultivate your own version of mommy bliss.

Since you’re being crunchy and pro-safety and health, don’t forget about extended-rear-facing if you haven’t considered it already. Babies are 75% less likely to be fatally injured in a crash if rear-facing. The AAP recommends keeping babies RF until they’re 2 now. We aren’t turning Nellie anytime soon and she is 2 months shy of 2 years old!

Safety 1st Complete Air. LOVE IT. Not horribly expensive either. I mean it’s not cheap, I think it retails for about $170 but it’s worth it. She won’t need another seat until she’s ready for a booster!
